Good for People, Bad for Bugs

From seed to bottle, Entomol® is a socially-conscious company committed to working directly with growers and emerging supply chain technologies to develop a sustainable system of production.

Entomol’s goal is a small carbon footprint for production of the product at every step of the way. The crops we grow require less water, no pesticides, and less input than other crops grown commercially. Butterflies and bees fill the field each season and the plants in the field transform CO2 into oxygen.

The final products contain an active ingredient produced from cat nip plants that effectively repels insects* to keep them away from you. It can be applied multiple times (every 4-6 hours as needed to effectively repel insects*) in a day without any label restrictions. It can be applied to the entire family to repel insects*.

Nepeta cataria, commonly known as catnip

The health benefits of the catnip plant (Nepeta cataria) have been appreciated since ancient times.  We now use the catnip plant to produce Refined Oil of Nepeta cataria for use as an insect* repellent. We work with the secret ingredient found in the catmint plant, nepetalactone, to create Refined Oil of Nepeta cataria, which contains, dihydronepetalactone, a substance with a talent for warding off bugs*.

Secret Ingredient, Global Opportunity

Growing wild in many parts of the world, this essential oil plant (catnip) has never been cultivated on a large commercial scale. We have partnered with farmers and growers in the United States, Canada, India and other countries to test different genetics, scale to larger acreage, and expand production and distribution worldwide to meet the growing demand for more sustainable insect* repellents.

Innovative Products, Unique New Applications

We are working closely with some of the world's leading brands to conduct research and development (R&D) of innovative, consumer-friendly products and formulations for potential new applications across many industries. Some of these include R&D work potentially for healthcare, personal care, spatial and in-home contact applications, and companion animal products among other categories. Keep an eye on Entomol for the next great product.

Tomorrow's Agriculture Starts Today

There was great interest in this product by major companies initially when DuPont patented the process. But the reason this product has taken years to get to market has been the challenges of agricultural commercial development of the plant. Entomol has worked through all the issues to scale production in order to support a commercially-viable product.

We initially studied the different genetics in India, working with the government’s agriculture research center to find the best in-the-field seed for production of high-quality oil. Growing and harvesting techniques were further defined through a partnership with Rutgers University on seed genetics and Ball Horticultural on exclusive development of the best genetics and field techniques to optimize production each season.

We are very focused on low impact agriculture that uses less water, less chemicals, and relies on natural resources to produce, while giving back benefits to our environment. The plant is a CO2 exchanger, pollinators love it, and no pesticides are required.

We will continue to develop the greenest agricultural practices and apply the latest processing technologies possible to optimize our product in the field.
