A Better Way to Keep Bugs Away

Entomol® is the exclusive producer of the only EPA-registered essential oil active ingredient that serves as a natural insect repellent with the efficacy of DEET, but without the toxicity of synthetic chemicals.

Entomol’s mission is to help people live safer and healthier lives by protecting them from insects that can transmit diseases, such as Zika, West Nile Virus, and Encephalitis, without exposing them to the harmful chemicals found in other repellents.

We are thrilled to work with essential oil farmers and scientists to bring this uniquely safe and effective, all-natural active ingredient to the market.

Good for People, Bad for Bugs

From seed to bottle, Entomol® is a socially-conscious company committed to working directly with growers and emerging supply chain technologies to develop a sustainable system of production.

Entomol’s goal is a small carbon footprint for production of the product at every step of the way. The crops we grow require less water, no pesticides, and less input than other crops grown commercially. Butterflies and bees fill the field each season and the plants in the field transform CO2 into oxygen.

The final product is an active ingredient that naturally repels insects safely. It can be applied multiple times in a day without toxicity restrictions like chemical products and is safe to apply on infants.

Nepeta Cataria, commonly known as catnip

The health benefits of catnip have been appreciated since ancient times. This flowering perennial has a long history as both an herbal remedy and gentle sedative. In fact, the English drank it as tea till the trade routes to China were established. However, the secret ingredient, found only in catmint, is nepetalactone, a substance with a natural talent for safely warding off bugs.

Secret Ingredient, Global Opportunity

Growing wild in many parts of the world, this essential oil plant has never been cultivated on a large commercial scale. We have partnered with growers in United States, Canada, India and other countries to test different genetics, scale to larger acreage, and expand distribution worldwide to meet the growing demand for more sustainable natural repellents.

Innovative Products, Safe New Applications

We are working closely with some of the world's leading brands to develop innovative, environment-friendly products and formulations for new applications across healthcare, personal care, spatial and in-home contact applications, and animal safety products among other categories.

Tomorrow's Agriculture Starts Today

There was great interest in this product by major companies initially when DuPont patented the process. But the reason this product has taken years to get to market has been the challenges of agricultural commercial development of the plant. Entomol has worked through all the issues to scale production in order to support a commercially-viable product.

We initially studied the different genetics in India, working with the government’s agriculture research center to find the best in-the-field seed for production of high-quality oil. Growing and harvesting techniques were further defined through a partnership with Rutgers University on seed genetics and Ball Horticultural on exclusive development of the best genetics and field techniques to optimize production each season.

We are very focused on low impact agriculture that uses less water, less chemicals, and relies on natural resources to produce, while giving back benefits to our environment. The plant is a CO2 exchanger, pollinators love it, and no pesticides are required.

We will continue to develop the greenest agricultural practices and apply the latest processing technologies possible to optimize our product in the field.
